Girl dies in Red Earth crash
An eight-year-old girl is dead, her 11-year-old brother is in Edmonton hospital following a crash at the corner of highways #88 and #986.
Council okays townhouse project in spite of objections
Construction on a 30-unit townhouse project should commence this month, after town council approved the zoning change at its Apr. 3 meeting. It did so over the objections of nearby residents in a public hearing prior to the same meeting.

Team 6 and Team 2 battle in the early going of the Slave Lake Fire Department’s 24 Hours of Hockey tournament on Apr. 5 and 6. Six teams of 11 or 12 players played four games apiece over the 24 hours to help the fire deparatment raise money.

Slave Lake boxers shine at Golden Gloves
The Slave Lake Bantam ‘AA’ Sabres capped a brilliant season with a league championship last week. Playing in the second game of a best-of-three series with the Westlock Warriors on a Tuesday night, the Sabres won by a 5 – 2 count.
Smith fun teams wrap up season with awards supper
The Smith Agriplex was bustling with activity on Wednesday, Apr. 4 as parents and players of the fun hockey teams got together to share good food and to recognize the kids’ hard work. Event organizer Nancy Sand explains.
