Sawridge Creek did not overflow its banks in Slave Lake last Saturday, but it did cut a new channel through the neck of a peninsula in town near the college. Elsewhere, Eating Creek rampaged through the Winkler Estates area east of town, and west of town, Mooney Creek did its usual number on the surrounding countryside.

Catholic school board hopes for fall construction on school
The Living Waters school board is gung ho to get started on a new school for Slave Lake. It has the land, it has the money, it has plans and wants earth to move as early as this fall.

Town holds taxes to an average two per cent increase

Forty-three students test for tae kwon do belts

Excel Martial Arts held its spring belt testing on Apr. 28, and it was a big one. Forty-three students tested successfully for various belt levels – 14 of them black belts.



Anglers Cup looms

Ice is still on the lake, but the Anglers Cup is just around the corner. It’s being held early this year in an attempt to reduce fish mortality. Fish apparently handle the stress of being caught better when the water is colder.
