What drives gas prices?
In its May 23 edition, The Leader ran a story on gasoline prices. Quoting an essay penned by Hugh Mackenzie of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, several questions were asked of Pius Rolheiser, a senior executive with Imperial Oil.
Old Smith Highway construction bid comes in through the roof
The M.D. of Lesser Slave River had budgeted a 6.9 kilometre upgrading of the Old Smith Highway this year. They had received a $3 million grant in March, and estimated it would cost about $2.5 at current rates.

Heading out
Boats head to the starting area for the 7:00 a.m. start on the opening day of the Anglers Cup off Slave Lake on June 15. The Cup drew 121 teams, including serious competition from across western Canada, as well as quite a few locals, such as Dwayne Vercholuk and Shaun Klatchuk, in the nearest boat, above. Cross country ski facility proposed for Nine Mile Creek area
The focus for a new cross-country ski facility for the Slave Lake area has shifted to the south shore. A group appeared before M.D. #124 council last week seeking support for a proposal to develop a ski area along Nine Mile Creek, south of Widewater.
New opponent for Wolves in NWJHL
The Slave Lake Wolves have a new rivalry to look forward to in the Northwest Jr. Hockey League. Whitecourt will have a team in the league for the 2007/2008 season.
