Slave Lake population now 7,031
Despite its assurances that its 2006 census was A-okay, Statistics Canada missed quite a few bodies. That was confirmed earlier this month when a local census turned up 328 more residents than the federal effort found a year ago.

Lesser Slave getting greener
It’s remarkable what a sample of mud from the bottom of a lake can tell you. Regarding a couple of recent samples from Lesser Slave Lake, it tells researcher Roderick Hazewinkel that the lake is much richer in nutrients than it was 50 years ago.
