M.D. #124 council has its work cut out for it in the matter of residential vs. commercial uses of properties. Disagreements have arisen and complaints have been made by some residents about the use of certain properties for commercial purposes when it doesn’t strictly fit the zoning.

Local couple building bridges to help wild animals in distress
Norm Stenset and Maggie Loney live near Smith on the old highway. They lead quiet lives on a property that backs onto the Lesser Slave River. They own dogs and cats but often open their home to various abandoned, sick, or injured wild animals. Recently they helped a deer that was found crying next its mother’s body after she was struck by a car.

Sharks to swim in bigger pond

Slave Lakes Sharks coach Lenny Richer dropped by the leader last week with results of a couple recent swim meets. Seven swimmers travelled to Fairview on June 16. For nearly half of them, it was their first competition.



Nahamko hit lifts Sox over Cards

Bantam-aged baseball player Anthony Nahamko played a key role in a Southshore Men’s League game on June 27. One of three Bantams filling in for the Boss Pressure Red Sox, Nahamko’s seventh-inning single scored the winning run as the Sox nipped the Cardinals 7 – 6.
