Town cops now watching the highways
The Leader reported on May 2 that community constables were changing colours and preparing to take on more responsibility in enforcing traffic regulations throughout Slave Lake. In accordance with the newly established Public Security Peace Officer Program (May 1), Constables Mulholland and Cleave hinted that their mandate could soon include the portions of Hwy #2 and #88 that run through town.

Council can't decide on land near river
The matter of a certain 40-acre parcel of land near Lesser Slave River came before Slave Lake town council again at its July 3 meeting. Deciding what to do with it is a complicated business and although council was due to make a decision, it didn’t happen.

Race tightens up in men's baseball league

In Southshore Men’s Baseball League action last week, the Widewater Eagles suffered their first two defeats of the season. They didn’t lose top spot in the league standings, but things have tightened up quite a bit as a result.

The Slave Lake Elks Club is planning an event that will leave spectators wanting more. Club secretary Rick Nowicki says a bullarama planned for Aug. 10 will be classy affair with superior showmanship.
