MY CARD A crew of town employees was hard at it down at the Arctic Ice Centre last week, preparing the ice for this week’s hockey school. The job included un-creasing the creases in the goal creases, which are actually pieces of paper. Operating the roller is Wayne Bacon. Helping him, in no particular order are Justin Harrer, Scott Brewer, Cliff Ching, Darcy Soucy, Jamie Coutts and Karen McGrath.

Credit union pitches reno plan for downtown plaza
Slave Lake town council looked like the cat that swallowed the canary last week when Common Wealth Credit Union showed up at council’s meeting. What Common Wealth official Eric Dillon was propos- ing was a total refur- bishment of Rennie Hall Plaza, at no cost to the town.

New store vandalized before it even opens
The soon-to-open Slave Lake Liquor was the target of vandals over the weekend, reports the manager of the new business. The business is located at 1108 Main St., former home of the B & W Dairy King.

Sharks come up big at swimming provincials

Slave Lake’s summer swim team capped off a terrific season recently by winning medals at the provincial level. The hardware haul included individual gold, silver and bronze medals as well as the same colours in relay races.



Lanny McDonald coming for sports celebrity dinner

Alberta native son and NHL legend Lanny McDonald is coming to Slave Lake. With the help of the local Baker Petrolite office, he’s adding his support to a new library for this community, and the Rotary club’s commitment.
