The Sheriff of Nottingham (Sean McConnell) gets his comeuppance and is forced into grovelling before the righteous Robin Hood (Matt Sheardown), while Wil Scarlett (Jean Montgomery) looks on in the Slave Lake Musical Theatre Association production of 'Robin Hood' at the Gathering Place on Oct. 19. Over 500 people attended the two shows, helping the Rotary Club raise some money for its new library project.
There’s wall climbing and then there’s wall hanging. Howard Bellerose of Driftpile seems to be doing the latter. Bellerose was one of many Northern Lakes College students who visited the Slave Lake. campus on ‘lab day’, Oct. 17.

Lost hunter dies from exposure
A hunter who spent several days in the woods succumbed to exposure before being found by search parties, a news release from the Red Earth Creek RCMP reports.

Derek Hawkeswood of the Southside Boxing club in Edmonton gets a taste of leather. The special delivery was made by Norman Bradford of the Cougar Boxing club, also out of Edmonton. The provincial boxing tournament came to the Sawridge Inn Oct. 26 and 27.

'Hawks keep things close
The Slave Lake Winterhawks had an up and down weekend. It started with a road loss to the Onoway Ice Dogs on Friday and ended with an 11-8 victory over the Jasper Wolves on Saturday.
Losses pile up for Wolves
At least there weren't any blow-outs for the Wolves on the road this weekend. One week after losing two games by a combined score of 20-4, the Slave Lake Jr. 'B' team regained a bit of equilibrium in games against Sexsmith and Ft. St. John-losing both but by more modest scores.

For whom the dinner bell tolls in Mitsue
Mitsue Lake (and the surrounding area) gained its name from Cree
stories of cannabalism that supposedly took place there. The loose English translation of the word mitsue is 'eating' and the creek in the area takes its name from this translation.
