Slave Lake’s female Midget hockey team, the Thunder, had a successful weekend of games in High Prairie. They won three and lost only one in a tournament, good for second place overall.
The Thunder started off with a shut-out win over a Grande Prairie team. Brittany Shaule scored the only goal, assisted by Lacey Wynnyk.
Taylor Tonsi got the shut-out in net for Slave Lake.
Up next was host High Prairie and the Thunder got their scoring in gear in a 6 - 1 victory. Three goals in less than six minutes in the first period was more than enough, but they didn’t stop, scoring once more in the second and twice in the third.
Hazel Shaw led the way with a pair. Alexandra Ball, Taiya Ahola, Wynnyk and Shaule got the others.
Game 3 for the Thunder was against the Tolko Timberwolves of High Prairie. This was a semi-final game, and Slave Lake took it 2 - 0.
Shaule got the winner12:39 into the first period. She also assisted on Shaw’s third period goal.
That set up the final with Grovedale. Behind 2 - 0 after one the Thunder attemped a comeback. They scored twice in the second but it wasn’t enough. Paige Foster and Hazel Shaw were the goal scorers. Ahola assisted on both.
