Competition stiffening for Bantam 'AA'

Slave Lake’s Bantam ‘AA’ Thunder are finding wins hard to come by in the latter stages of the regular season. They spent a good deal of the season undefeated, but lately other teams have been giving them all they can handle, and this past weekend was another example.
On Friday, the Thunder tangled with the visiting Barrhead team and ended up earning a point in a 4 - 4 tie. On Sunday they hosted Whitecourt and lost 4 - 2.
They now find themselves in third place, two points behind Barrhead and Whitecourt, and two ahead of Morinville.
Goals came thick and fast in Friday’s game, with the Thunder trailing 3 - 2 after 20 minutes. Kolby Lukan and Brandon Devos got the Slave Lake goals, assisted by Travis Malbeuf and Kirk Ruecker. The Devos goal came shorthanded.
All the rest of the scoring took place in the second period. Joey Bigstone and #3 (not named on the game sheet) got the Slave Lake goals, with Ruecker and Lukan assisting .
Bud Dyck was in goal for the Thunder.
Slave Lake had a hard time finding the back of the net in Sunday’s game against Whitecourt. They trailed 1 - 0 after one period and 2 - 0 after two, before netting a couple in the third. But so did Whitecourt, and that was the end of that.
Bigstone and Mathew Girard got the Slave Lake goals, with Lukan earning the lone assist. Zach Pollard handled netminding duties for the Thunder.
The Thunder have a big weekend coming up. They visit Athabasca on Friday and Saturday, and must travel to Morinville on Sunday.
