Bantam 'AA' Thunder romp over Athabasca

Slave Lake’s Bantam ‘AA’ Thunder made the most of a couple of trips to Athabasca on the weekend.
Taking no prisoners, they romped to wins of 9 – 0 and 14 – 0 in what should have been their final weekend of the regular season. Sunday’s game against Morinville was not played due to bad weather. It’s unclear as to whether it will be made up later.
The two wins put the Thunder into a first place tie with Westlock, two points up on both Morinville and Barrhead. However, Westlock and Morinville have a couple of games in hand.
In Friday’s 9 – 0 win, Brandon Devos led the way with three goals. Joey Bigstone and Matthew Girard had a pair apiece, with Nathan Hannah and Anthony Nahamko scoring the others. Hannah, Bigstone, Mathew Monaghan, Aaron Deas, Kolby Lukan, Kyle Buchberger and Eric Girard all chipped in with assists.
Zach Pollard was the winning goalie.
On Saturday the Thunder were back in Athabasca for the 14 – 0 win – exactly the same score as in their first meeting of the season, way back on Oct. 7.
Matthew Girard started off the barrage with two goals. Then it was Riley Eben, Joey Bigstone, Eric Girard, Kolby Lukan, Nathan Hannah twice, Brandon Devos, Travis Malbeuf, Anthony Nahamko, Lukan, Bigstone and Bigstone again.
Kirk Ruecker had a good game, setting up four goals. Lance Filgate, Riley Eben, Mathew Monaghan and Travis Malbeuf each had two helpers. Aaron Deas and Eric Girard also had an assist.
