A fellow called the office the other day, asking if we knew that several street lights on Hwy. 2 just west of the intersection with Main St. were not working properly and hadn’t been for some time. We didn’t, but said we’d look into it. So we asked Roger Borchert at the Town about it. He said those lights are a provincial responsibility and he would inform them. A few minutes later he called to say that the Alberta Transportation people had been informed, and that they were onto their contractor to do something about it. So hopefully the lights will be fixed pretty soon.

Canada World Youth is looking for leaders to work in western and Atlantic Canada. Readers might remember the organization that brought a couple of groups of young people from across Canada and from Poland to Slave Lake for a few weeks, to help with community development projects. Then they packed up and went to do the same thing in Poland and Ukraine. More of the same is on order, but they need people to supervise these groups. If you think you have what it takes, check out the Canada World Youth website at canadaworldyouth.org.

Next week we’re going to have a preview story on the annual Party With Your Toques On ice fishing derby, which is probably the fourth annual, but we’re not quite sure. Jeff Lukan at The Point was going to fax us the info, but he decided to hold off for a week. So this is just a little teaser. Look for more next week on the big event, which is coming up sometime in March.
