Better effort from Wolves vs. Wheelers, says coach.

Slave Lake Wolves’ coach Scott Sinclair doesn’t’ have a lot to say about his team’s two losses Dawson Creek and Sexsmith the weekend before last.
“Pretty frustrating,” is about it.
The Wolves also lost both games to Grande Prairie this past weekend, but Sinclair was much happier with effort. Except for the first eight minutes of Saturday’s game (when the Wheelers scored four times), “it was two pretty good efforts,” he said. Saturday’s game ended 7 – 3 for the Wheelers.
Sunday’s game didn’t start with a letdown and the Wolves actually had a lead heading down the stretch. Then bad luck kicked in and they found themselves down two men on what Sinclair calls “a real marginal penalty.”
Grande Prairie got the tying goal out of it and the game went to overtime, then a shoot-out, which they won.
“We couldn’t close,” Sinclair says.
The final score was 5 – 4 for Grande Prairie.
The team played well enough to win, though, and that’s a positive sign. Sinclair says he hopes they take that attitude into the final two games of the season this weekend. The Wolves visit Whitecourt on Saturday and close out the schedule at home Sunday against the Peace River Navigators. That’ll be a playoff preview, because the last place Wolves take on the division-leading Navigators in the first round, starting on Wednesday, Feb. 20.
The Navigators have not had a lot of trouble with the Wolves this season, winning all their meetings so far. But then they haven’t had much trouble with any team, having lost only three games.
