Bad roads, bad driving
A dozen collisions in two days is quite a high number, but perhaps not surprising considering road conditions around Slave Lake last week.

Another mill bites the dust
The latest in a grim litany of closures in the forest products industry happened last week, and it was pretty close to home. High Prairie’s Tolko oriented strandboard mill got the chop, putting 119 people out of work.

Mooney Creek bridge
The persistent headache otherwise known as Mooney Creek bridge came up before M.D. #124 council at its Feb. 13 meeting. Facing another season of possible floods, council faces a tough decision on the fate of old, battered and inconvenient (when it floods) span on the old highway west of Slave Lake.

Wolves shed monkey, beat Peace River

Slave Lake’s Jr. ‘B’ team finally got the game it was looking for against the Peace River Navigators. Playing in Slave Lake on Sunday, the Wolves turned in an excellent performance, beating the league-leading Navigators 5 - 3.



Atom 'A's survive bus trip to Whitecourt

The Atom ‘A’ Thunder had “quite an adventure” on a playoff trip to Whitecourt on Feb. 17, according to their publicity person. It involved a game and a bus trip with a smoky interruption.
