Wolves shed monkey, beat Peace River

Slave Lake’s Jr. ‘B’ team finally got the game it was looking for against the Peace River Navigators. Playing in Slave Lake on Sunday, the Wolves turned in an excellent performance, beating the league-leading Navigators 5 - 3.
To put it in perspective, Peace River went into the game with a record of 28 wins and five losses. The Wolves sported a record of eight wins (and none since Dec. 8) and 25 losses. In their previous five meetings, the Navigators had out-scored the Wolves 48 - 10.
It was the perfect end to a difficult season for the the Wolves, who had lost 3 - 0 in Whitecourt the night before.
In the win, the Wolves led 2 - 1 after one period and 4 - 2 after two. Alex MacIsaac started the scoring and Trevor Ahola finished it off. In between, Kiel Ching, Stefan Vezina and Shawn Proulx scored.
The winning goalie was Michael Kashuba, who stopped 30 of 33 shots.
The Wolves now face Peace River in the first round of the East Division playoffs (starting this week on the road), while Grande Prairie and Whitecourt tangle in the other divisional semi-final.
