Last week's lunar eclipse was a beauty, and The Leader's Patrick Keller was on the job with his trusty Pentax digital to capture the drama of the moon gradually disappearing into the shadow of the earth. Sky gazers were treated to a rare sight: The only total lunar eclipse of 2008, visible from Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Australia. A partial eclipse occurs only twice a year, and a total eclipse more rarely than that. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon travels completely into the Earth's umbral shadow (the area that receives no solar radiation). The next total eclipse of the moon will occur on Dec. 21, 2010.

Winterhawks push Lamont to fifth game

On the verge of elimination from the North Central Hockey League playoff's Slave Lake Senior Men's team dug in, hung on and came back to win Sunday. After loosing Game 3 on Saturday and did it in a dramatic fashion, 8-7 in double overtime.



Wolves fall to Peace River

The Slave Lake Wolves put up a good fight against Peace River in the first round of Jr. 'B' playoffs, but were swept in the best-of-five series.
