Slave Lake, Alberta

Wolves fall to Peace River

Joe McWilliams

The Slave Lake Wolves put up a good fight against Peace River in the first round of Northwest Jr. ‘B’ playoffs, but were swept in the best-of-five series. Losers of the first two games in Peace River, the Wolves had by no means given up when the series shifted to Slave Lake Saturday night.
In fact they battled back from a 2 – 0 third-period deficit to take a 3 – 2 lead late in the game.
Hanging on to that lead proved impossible, however. The Navigators tied it with 47 seconds left (allegedly with seven skaters on the ice) and then scored the series clincher in overtime.
Scoring for the Wolves were Nick Plourde, Trevor Ahola and Tyson Price – all in a seven-minute span in the third period.
The Navigators won the first game 5 – 1 and the second game 6 – 3.
In the other East Division playoff, Whitecourt won the first two games over Grande Prairie. In the West, Dawson Creek and Fort St. John were both up 2 – 0 in their playoff series.
