Slave Lake, Alberta

The Page

It looks as if the local RCMP are mounting another one of their regimental balls. These formal affairs are held every several years, perhaps according to some schedule or perhaps not.
Anyway, one’s happening on Apr. 26 at the Sawridge Inn & Conference Centre, right here in sunny, beautiful Slave Lake.
‘This event provides an opportunity for the community and RCMP members to enjoy an evening of friendship and raise funds for numerous non-profit organizations. Regimental ball includes dinner, dance, silent and live auction and keynote speaker, Mr. Ralph Klein.
The cost is $85. For tickets or more info, call 849-3999.

Goodness gracious, we almost forgot about the Night of Chocolate Bliss at the library. This is a project of the new Friends of the Library, some of whom have been up to their elbows, no doubt, in chocolate the past few days preparing the decadent desserts that are promised for the Feb. 29 event. For example: chocolate truffle cheesecake, chocolate cherry merlot brownies (shocking!), reverse chocolate chip cookies (what are reverse chocolate chips?) and treasure torte dusted with gold (almost certainly illegal).
It’s at the library at 7:00 p.m.

Your last chance for the Rotary’s Ice Out pool is this Friday, folks, Feb. 29. Harry Bartlett tells us he has a ticket just for you.
In other Rotary news, Mr. B. was in the office last Thursday morning telling us that he’s also doing a ‘three-prize’ raffle in conjunction with the people putting on the alternative energy fair at the college this weekend. Prizes are a bicycle, a solar panel and a tool set.
Look forward to another NHL playoff pool too, Harry says. Tickets on sale very soon.
Coming up on Apr. 12 is another Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament at the Sawridge.
For the kids, the Rotary teams up with the musical theatre people for the play ‘Shrek Fest’ at The Gathering Place on Apr. 18 and 19. Then the biggie of them all, the 777 car raffle goes on May 31 at the arena.
