The season for the Slave Lake Midget Girls Thunder came down to one weekend tournament. The four teams of their new league all came to town to settle the question of which the top team was, and when the ice chips settled, it was the Thunder.
The Thunder got the job done with three wins and a tie in their four games. They started off with a 6 – 0 win over Edson on Friday night. Paige Foster led the way with a pair of goals. Amy Wilson, Jillian Sauer, Hazel Shaw and Taiya Ahola got the others.
Saturday’s first game was a 2 – 2 with the Fort McMurray Midgets. Brittany Shaule and Hazel Shaw got the goals.
Then the Thunder prevailed 5 – 3 over the Fort McMurray Bantams. Shaule scored twice for Slave Lake. Foster, Jen Thiessen and Jillian Sauer got the others.
That set up Sunday’s ‘A’ final between Slave Lake and, somewhat surprisingly, the Fort Mac Bantams. Sharai Dreelan got the shut-out in a 3 – 0 win.
The game sheet is hard to read, but it looks like Paige Foster scored twice in the game, with Ryley Emery getting the other.
