Slave Lake, Alberta

Donna Kuhberg is trying to drum up some interest in the second year of Business Administration at Northern Lakes College. Apparently whether it runs or not depends on how many paid registrations there are. The implication is that right now there aren’t enough, hence Donna’s effort to spread the word.
“We ask you to get the word out there for interested parties to apply now,” she says in an e-mail to The Leader and about 50 other e-mail contacts. “It is imperative we get the word out there to keep the motivation alive.”
The application form is available online (but can’t be submitted online) at northernlakescollege.ca. You can contact Donna at donnkuhb@northernlakescollege.ca for more information too.

Condolences to the family of Bert (Bertha) Rensfelt of Widewater, who passed away last week shortly after her 95th birthday. Mrs. Rensfelt was a remarkable woman for many reasons, one of which was that she managed to live on her own in her own home right up almost to the end.
A year or two ago The Leader had the honour of interviewing her and running a story about her long life by the lakeshore. She was probably 93 then, and although quite hard of hearing, had a sparkling sense of humour that made it a pleasure to be in her company. Plus she kept insisting her guests eat more cake!

A group of about 40 Roland Michener students and chaperones are off in China this week, jetting around that huge country from Beijing (site of this year’s Summer Olympics) to Xian (if we’re not mistaken, the site of some cool archaeological stuff), Shanghai and Hong Kong. It’s quite an undertaking, but no doubt more than worthwhile for the participants. We hope to have some kind of report for you after they return.

Thanks to Jacques Richer, for helping us out last week with a bit of guidance in the French language. The conversation turned into a fish story, believe it or not, and not just any fish, but the eight-foot swordfish type of story, from down Mexico way.

The Leader had to rush into production last Thursday, thanks to a couple of factors, so we may have missed a thing or two. One reason was so staff could have Good Friday off - and with half of them coming down with something, they would have taken it off anyway. The other was those pesky firefighters and their 24 hours of hockey tournament, which somehow your editor got talked into playing.
