The Calahasen forecast: huge oil growth up north
Brace yourselves for massive oilsands development north of Slave Lake,
Lesser Slave MLA Pearl Calahasen told Chamber of Commerce members on Mar. 31. It wasn’t news that Shell is planning an oilsands project up north, but Calahasen said she’d been talking to the company and learned some eyebrow-raising figures.
Nobody very happy with intersection cost distribution
At its Apr. 1 meeting, Slave Lake town council settled the question of who pays and how much for three Hwy. 2 intersection upgrades. The costs will be distributed among the owners of undeveloped land south and north of the highway, according to a formula that none of them (according to documents and presentations) seem happy with.
Woman missing
Ruth Nora Cocks was last seen leaving the Grand Union Hotel in Athabasca at 2:30 a.m. on Mar. 29. Her whereabouts since then are a mystery, and the Athabasca RCMP is hoping someone in the Slave Lake or Smith area might know something.

Lakeside skaters finish the season on a high note
Eleven skaters from the Lakeside Figure Skating Club competed in the final competition of the season in Grande Prairie this past weekend and brought home 14 individual medals and three team medals.
Musical family keeps Metis tradtitions alive
C.J. Shurter School brought some world class talent to town, and then worked them hard all day long.
The school is big on the extracurricular activity of jigging and all things Métis and on March 31, the kids were treated to some real professionals.
