Slave Lake, Alberta

The Page

Somebody’s happy and her name is Donna Kuhberg. Donna has been lobbying hard to preserve the second year of the current Northern Lakes College Business Aministration program. She and her classmates are closing in on the end of their first year, but due to low enrollment numbers, the second year was in jeopardy. Donna’s publicity campaign seems to have paid off, because last week the college decided to go ahead with Year II.
“All I can say right now is ‘WOO HOO’!” said Donna in an e-mail to The Leader and others last week.

The Leader has the pleasure of an extra reporter in the office for the next few months. Leah Miller, a journalism student from Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, B.C. is here until the end of August. Her main responsibility is to fill the Spotlight section, which is the regional supplement that also goes in the High Prairie South Peace News and Falher Smoky River Express. If you’ve got any ideas for feature stories, by all means give her a call, at 849-4380. Are there people out there with interesting hobbies or occupations that not many know about? Artists? Craftspeople? Raisers of exotic livestock? Collectors? You name it, Leah wants to hear about it.
She’ll also be doing some coverage for The Leader exclusively, such as her photo assignment at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Slave Lake government centre last week.

Sick donkey delays Shrek Fest. That would be the headline if this were a proper story. Harry Bartlett tells us that the actor playing the donkey in the kids’ play that was supposed to happen on Apr. 18 and 19 fell ill, forcing a postponement. All the tickets are still good, he says, and any ticket holder that can’t make the May dates will get a refund.
May 23 and 24 are the new dates.
