Trisha Poitras
For the Lakeside Leader
The Indicas had a very busy year! With new recreational swimmers and four competitions it was packed full.
Due to the Alberta Winter Games being so early and the pool closing, the Indicas were faced with the possibility of shutting down. But with Super 8 Hotel coming to our aid and trips to the Wabasca pool the swimmers carried on. The Wabasca pool welcomed the young athletes with open arms, and offered them a great facility and even opened during off hours to accommodate them!
Come December when the pool reopened the girls were able to finish their routines and have a great year.
And now the Indicas season comes to a close and in the coaches’ opinion another year of wonderful creativity and displays of athleticism. The Indicas were all so happy to see new faces in the recreational side of synchro. Without the rec program the club would have none of the competitive swimmers that swim today. It was a wonderful job by the rec coaches as they have helped lots of new faces have fun and learn new skills.
The rec swimmers have really improved too and many are now ready to move to the competitive side of things. This will ensure a healthy club for future years.
The competitive swimmers had a great year as well. With lots of time for perfection and learning new skills and fun lifts, the swimmers certainly improved by leaps and bounds.
Even with a pool shut down and traveling to practice the swimmers were able to qualify for Alberta Winter Games and compete at the games with great results. With a stellar showing at North and a strong, consistent showing at Provincials, the Indicas were pleased with the results and confident that the swimmers are some of the best that have ever come out of our small town. They continue to be a great club, but only with the dedication of all who are involved. Competitive results are listed below.
What’s up for the Indicas during the off-season? The Indicas are hoping to participate in the Riverboat Days Parade as a way to promote their 15th season in the community. The Indicas will also be doing ‘Just Try ‘n Synch’ and private lessons for those interested.
The Indicas are really hoping for big numbers for next year. There’ll be a change to the program and they will start to swim Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-7pm.
The Indicas will be offering a full skill program with levels from recreational to competitive Tier 1-5.
All the Indicas would like to encourage everyone to support the Canadian Olympic Team in Beijing this summer as they compete for a place on the podium. You may find swim times listed on www.synchro.ca
The Slave Lake Indicas would like to acknowledge all of the wonderful businesses and people who helped our club. Three cheers for everyone! And as always a big Thanks to the executives; they did a great job in keeping on top of things and creating new and fun opportunities for the swimmers. Well done to all of the parents for their hard work, it is not always easy... well it’s a messy job. Thanks again for a great year and the coaches look forward to seeing you all next year!
