Slave Lake, Alberta

Running club gets active

Joe McWilliams
Lakeside Leader

There’s a running club in town you might not have heard of called the ‘Slave Lake Sneakers. The Leader has agreed to profile some of its members over the next few weeks.
Danielle Dennis and Julie Warwaruk are two who join in the club’s 10:00 a.m. Saturday runs. They both came to running relatively recently - Danielle’s been at it two years and Julie just one.
“Almost anyone can run if they start out slow,” says Julie.
The pair are heading to the Bluenose Marathon in Halifax on May 18. They’re running for Team Diabetes, to raise money for the Canadian Diabetes Association.
This will be the first half marathon (21 kilometres) for both runners.
The running club meets at 10 a.m. every Saturday at Northern Lakes College.
“Keep on running!” says Danielle.
