Not to give away any secrets, but a certain former Leader reporter tells us she’s hot on the trail of a story that involves cows, calves, snow and the price of beef, something that has been under-reported, if it has been reported at all. She’ll be blowing the cover right off it, probably in next week’s Leader.

The weather last Thursday had an eerie similarity to a certain other spring day in 1998 when a big forest fire started. The difference then was that the Mitsue fire sparked up east of town and moved further east (at least at first). Last week’s fire was aimed right at Slave Lake. That it was stopped fairly quickly, without too much damage, is quite remarkable.
