Kids are chasing balls all over Slave Lake playing fields four nights a week lately. Soccer season is short, but participation is large, making it probably the most widely played sport in town every spring.

Property value assessments too high?
Many Slave Lakers got a rude shock when their property tax notices arrived last month. The actual tax amount may or may not have been shocking, but the assessed value of their property certainly was. Some are thinking – and saying – that it is unrealistically high.
Gas theft rises with prices
Some folks aren’t putting up with the record high gas prices of late and they aren’t taking the problem lying down. They’re just taking it! According to bookkeeper Grace Waddell of the local Mac’s store and Husky station, the number of “gas n’ dashes” is rising as fast as the price of oil.
M.D. council votes to close Mooney Creek bridge, at least temporarily
The Mooney Creek bridge on the Sawridge Road west of Slave Lake may or may not be fixed or replaced. But it will be closed, according to a decision made by M.D. #124 council last week.
