Drake Kanzig, 14, poses in front of the 1927 Ford Model 'T' built by his grandfather Oliver Kanzig. Drake holds a photo of his grandfather with his 'T' just before he passed on a few months ago. The Kanzig car was one of about 100 that were on display during the Route 88 Rods and Customs 2008 Show and Shine. Look for more cool cars in next weeks Leader.

Residents on 4th St. NW and 10th Ave. SE are in for a bit of an inconvenience this summer (or maybe fall). Their streets are due for work under the the town's continuing improvement program.
Charges laid in Swan River 'suspicious death'
A charge of manslaughter has been laid against a Swan River man in what Faust and High Prairie RCMP are calling a 'suspicious death.'
Jail and bail fundraiser a runaway success
The Slave Lake Air/Ground Ambulance service's Jail and Bail fundraiser proved wildly successful, raising $17,760.63. The proceeds will be divided between the Northern Haven Support Society and Slave Lake Victims Services.

Dustin Ghostkeeper of the Slave Lake Bandits is all smiles after hitting a grand slam home run in the first inning of a Southshore Men's League game against the Slave Lake Heat on July 9. The Bandits scored 10 runs in the inning and went on to a 17-2 victory. This is the last week for regularily scheduled games in the league.

Kyle Buchberger of Slave Lake took second place in his division at the Quebec Cup, a boxing tournament held Longueuil on June 26.
Pee Wees go 2-2 in Dawson Creek
The Slave Lake Pee Wee Heat baseball team began their quest for a provincial title by going 2-2 in Dawson Creek on the July 5 weekend.
