The Slave Lake Pee Wee Heat baseball team began their quest for a provincial title by going 2 – 2 in Dawson Creek on the July 5 weekend.
The Heat opened the round robin by losing a hard-fought game to Grande Prairie 16 – 15. The game saw solid pitching from Brayden Stasow, Zachery Gill, Tyler Campbell and Austen Kuhn.
In Game 2 on Saturday, the Heat bounced back with a 14 – 12 win over the host team Dawson Creek. Strong pitching from Randall Weber and Cole Cooper combined with key hits from Ethan Ball, Jordan Tonsi, Corbin Cooper and Steven Lovelace gave the Heat a much-deserved win.
In Sunday’s action, the Heat battled Peace River and came up just short, Losing 11 – 8. Brayden Stasow, Tyler Campbell, Cole Cooper and Austen Kuhn handled the pitching duties for the Heat.
Game 2 on Sunday saw the Heat defeat Horse Lake 10 – 0 in four innings. Pitching the shut out for the Heat was Dalton Masur.
The Heat traveled to Peace River this past weekend for the second round of provincial play.
