Slave Lake, Alberta

Mitsue Minnows small on numbers, big on talent

Submitted

Slave Lake has a second competitive summer swim club, the Mitsue Minnows.
The Mitsue Minnows Swim Club was registered with Alberta Summer Swimming Association (A.S.S.A.) and used a few years ago.
This season, the club registered two swimmers. Due to personal obligations, Trevor and Erik Labrie were unable to commit to the Sharks Swim Club evening practices and are the two Mitsue Minnows swimmers. I am their coach.
The boys competed in Grande Prairie, June seventh and both achieved personal bests in all four of their swims.
The Mitsue Minnows achieved top club for the most points overall.
The Fairview meet was June 14; Erik achieved personal bests in all four of his events, while Trevor achieved three personal bests.
Both boys opted to swim the 14 and under 100 metre butterfly event for the first time. Trevor, age 12, finished first with Erik, age 10, coming in second.
The Mitsue Minnows achieved second place behind the Peace River Porpoises.
At Beaverlodge, June 21, Trevor took first in the 100m butterfly and
bettered his times in three events. Erik finished second in the 100m butterfly bettering his time by two seconds.
Erik won the bronze medal in the boys 9/10 age group. The Mitsue Minnows achieved top club for the most points.
On June 28, the Mitsue Minnows travelled to High Level. Erik Labrie bettered two of his times and won the bronze medal in the boys 9/10 age group. Trevor had one personal best time and brought home the gold medal for the boys 11 and 12 age group.
The Mitsue Minnows achieved top club for the most points.
‘Points’ at swim meets are computed from the scores (the club tally) achieved at the meet divided by the total number of A.S.S.A. registered club swimmers multiplied by 100.
