The cause of the May 15 fire, which destroyed considerable property and threatened several homes, is still ‘under investigation’, according to the government.

A Slave Lake man is one of several people accused of breaching Alberta securities laws. He was ordered to appear in a Calgary courtroom on Friday, July 18 to set a hearing date for next year.

All systems go for demolition derby
After two days of hard labour, the demolition derby grounds at Widewater are just about ready to host the Sept. 6 derby. That’s the latest from Rik Bassett, whose core group of organizers spent July 18 and 20 brushing and cleaning up the site.

Nin Mile ski/bike trails get an upgrade
The Nine Mile Creek trail system, which was established only last winter for cross-country skiing, is getting an upgrade. Alberta Plywood, together with the M.D. and numerous contributing businesses, is in the process of adding bridges, building a proper parking lot and (in the case of the M.D.) improving the road from the highway into the parking lot area.
