Slave Lake, Alberta

Fatal collision on Highway 754

Patrick Keller

A call from a concerned citizen alerted police to a vehicle in the trees off of Highway 754, between Slave Lake and Desmarais.
Police attended the scene early on Saturday morning, July 26, and found that a single vehicle had gone off the highway and hit a tree.
Inside, the lifeless body of an 80-year-old man was found. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several hours later, a second person was found suffering from head wounds and wandering the bush near the crash site.
A traffic analyst from Westlock traffic services, a forensic identification specialist from High Prairie and Slave Lake Traffic Services members all attended the scene to assist the Slave Lake detachment with the investigation.
At this point, it has not been determined why the vehicle left the highway, but a Slave Lake RCMP news release suggests that “alcohol could be a factor.”
The investigation is ongoing and very few other details have been released.
The deceased was a resident of Slave Lake.
