Brian ‘Killer B’ Keller got a royal send-off on Aug. 8 when the Slave Lake Winterhawks put on a ball-hockey game in his honour at the Hilda Eben Park rink. Presenting him with going away presents of jerseys and a plaque were Winterhawks Keith Sinclair, Shawn Gramlich and Kyle Hansen. Keller served for many years as the trainer for the Winterhawks and before that for the Jr. ‘B’ Wolves. The plaque reads: ‘Thanks for all the hard work and dedication through the years.’ Brian is off to college in Fairview.

A big chunk of southeast Slave Lake had no Telus service for part of last week, after a construction crew cut a buried cable.

Smith girl wins silver at Indigenous Games
As of Thursday last week, Montana Cardinal of Smith had more medals than the entire Canadian Olympic team in Beijing. Cardinal, a 15-year-old high school student didn’t have an Olympic medal, but her silver from the North American Indigenous Games is pretty special.
