Crews attend the scene of an August 17 tanker rollover six kilometres north of Slave Lake on Highway 88. The effort was aided by police and fire crews, conservation officers and staff from Alberta Environment. The spill was contained but not before approximately 15,000 litres of diesel had leaked from the ruptured tanks.

Clean-up underway in the wake of fuel spill
A tanker truck that left Highway 88 north of Slave Lake has leaked nearly 15,000 litres of diesel fuel into the soil of Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park.

Shleter opens to grand reception
It’s official. Northern Have Support Society’s safe home is up, running and already helping families in need. A grand opening celebration on August 20 paid tribute to the hard work and diligence of the non-profit society and countless volunteers who made the home a reality.

Sports Highlights

They went to Edmonton ‘ready to rip’ and while their relay team did not come home draped in medals, most earned at least one individually. The group includes (l-r) Kirk Ruecker, Jiles Ladouceur, Morgan Hogberg and Nolan Brost -- all part of the boys’ relay team that represented the Sharks at provincials. They swam in the 17 years and Over 200m medley and freestyle relays.

Schultz, Turcotte and Gullion top junior golf tourney
A full dozen and a half junior golfers took part in this year's Junior Open at the Gilwood Golf and Country Club earlier this month, with Jaydon Schultz, Konrad Turcotte and Rico Gullion claiming top honours in the three age divisions.
