It may be a bad year for pumpkins and other squashes (or so we hear), but for crabapples, it looks really good. This tree is at Bill Lafoy’s place in the northwest part of town, and it’s loaded with reddish-orange fruit. Bill’s dad Stu Lafoy planted the tree in 1967.

The organizers of the Soutshore Men’s Baseball League probably never planned for the playoffs to stretch into September, but it was looking like it might happen anyway. For various reasons, the final series didn’t get started until Aug. 25, and the first two games had to be halted due to darkness.
