ches along the way, road work on 7 St. S.E. is progressing at a decent pace, said town manager Betty Osmond in an August 28 phone interview.
“Basically, we had August 24 as a project completion date, so we are a little behind,” said Osmond.
The work in question included water line repair along the block in front of Roland Michener School, where several small breaks had been detected.
The job has been hampered by a few mishaps. On Aug. 11, Telus users in the immediate area had their phone and internet service knocked out, when excavators exceeded the 14 foot depth that the phone carrier’s lines are buried at.
Telus personnel responded quickly, but the job was complicated by the fact that the hole had caved in on itself.
Once phone service had been restored, workers got back to the job at hand.
“By the time school opens on Tuesday we should have all the underground work done,” said Osmond. “That means the parking lots at the school will be available again. After that, the curb, gutter and paving work will follow. We should be completely done within three weeks.”
As the job was being sewn up on the afternoon of August 28, cable television subscribers found themselves temporarily without service.
The interuption of cable service lasted only a couple of hours.
