Cardinals, Wabasca in best-of-five baseball final

The organizers of the Soutshore Men’s Baseball League probably never planned for the playoffs to stretch into September, but it was looking like it might happen anyway. For various reasons, the final series didn’t get started until Aug. 25, and the first two games had to be halted due to darkness.
Game one between the Slave Lake Cardinals and the Wabasca Indians went on Aug. 25 and had to be called two innings shy of completion with the Indians up by a couple of runs. A highlight of the game was a three-run homer by Keith Sinclair of the Cardinals.
The teams got back at it on Aug. 27, and the Cardinals came back to win by a run, driven in by Leonard Sinclair.
Game 2 started up immediately, and again had to be suspended due to darkness - again with the Cardinals leading by three runs in the fifth inning.
Play resumed Thursday night, Aug. 28, with the Cardinals holding on to win Game 2.
The third game started promptly, but at 8:40 p.m. the umpires shut it down due to the descending gloom. Things are looking good for the Cardinals, up by five or six runs with only six outs to go for the championship. They finish it off Sept. 2.
