Police are treating the Oct. 5 death of a Slave Lake man as homicide.
Cpl. Bob Dodds told The Leader Monday morning that the investigation was ongoing, and any information released at that time might have a detrimental effect on it.
Out of town investigators were involved in the case.
The incident that led to the man's death allegedly took place in a unit of a fourplex on 6th Ave. S.W.
Cpl. Wayne Oakes of the RCMP's K-Division was a bit more forthcoming. In an Oct. 6 news release, Oakes confirmed that one man had died as the result of "an apparent serious injury." He did not say that it was a shooting.
Police first heard about the incident at about 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5. They arrived at the 5th St. and 6th Ave. S.W. address to find the victim in not very good shape. He died a short time later at Slave Lake hospital, Oakes says.
"Investigators believe there was some sort of altercation involving several individuals..." says the release.
Running the investigation is the major crime unit from Edmonton, with the help of forensics experts from Peace River, the SLave Lake RCMP and other RCMP personnel from out of town.
An autopsy is scheduled for Oct. 7, Oakes says.
Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area on the morning of Oct. 5. Contact the Slave Lake RCMP at 780-849-3045 or calla Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
