Police charge three in Oct. 5 death
Three men have been arrested and charged with first degree murder following an altercation which ended in a fatal shooting on Oct. 5. The incident occurred near 5th Street and 6th Ave in Slave Lake.

M.D. to reduce speed limits
The default speed limit on any rural road or street, unless otherwise posted, is 80 kilometres per hour. This fact raised a few eyebrows around the M.D. #124 council table on Oct. 7.

Many roads in M.D. to be named or re-named
The Municipal District of Lesser Slave River is coming up with a new, unified street address system for its entire territory. To do it, the M.D. needs names for all the roads or bits of road that can’t be identified by range or township number. There are quite a few of these, M.D. councillors heard at their Oct. 7 meeting.

New coach feeling good about the Winterhawks
The Slave Lake Winterhawks have found their man. He’s Kim Scobie, who steps in as the head coach of the Senior hockey team just in time for the new season.

Tae kwon do club numbers surge
Over 150 people have signed up for tae kwon do classes at Northern Lakes College this fall. Northern Spirit Taekwondo Club instructor Bruce Whitney says it’s the 19th season for the club, and next April will be the 11th annual tournament.
