Tae kwon do numbers surge

Over 150 people have signed up for tae kwon do classes at Northern Lakes College this fall. Northern Spirit Taekwondo Club instructor Bruce Whitney says it’s the 19th season for the club, and next April will be the 11th annual tournament.
There’ll be lots of training and competing between now and then, with two Edmonton tournaments, plus tournaments in Whitecourt and Sundre on the schedule for the club.
Also on the agenda is a break-a-thon fundraiser just after Christmas. Whitney says the club plans to use the money for portable bleachers for the college.
Classes run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, as well as Saturday mornings this year. Tuesday and Thursday classes start with three and four-year-olds, continue with five to eight-year-olds, then family class and finally adult class. Wednesdays are beginner classes and Saturdays are reserved for sparring.
