The Slave Lake Wolves had a busy week, with three league games starting last Wednesday. But not a point do they have to show for it.
The Wolves lost to Peace River 5 – 1 on Oct. 22 in what their coach Scott Sinclair called “a really disgusting performance in the first two periods.”
Sinclair told The Leader after the game that he figured his players owed him 40 minutes of hard skating and he was going to get it out of them at the next practice. Reportedly he did just that, skating them until they (or at least some of them) threw up.
The Wolves may have worked harder as a result against Dawson Creek on Saturday night, but it didn’t show up on the scoreboard; they lost, 7 – 1.
The Fort St. John Huskies were in town Sunday and this time the Wolves made a game of it. Down 4 – 1 in the third period, they scored twice to make it a 4 – 3 final.
With the three losses, the Wolves stay on five points for the season, good for seventh place in the eight-team Northwest Jr. Hockey League.
Good news for the Wolves last week was the return of three players. Shawn Kubel was back from injury, as was Dustin Ghostkeeper. Jayme Wilson also made his first appearance of the season.
Ghostkeeper had an immediate impact. He scored his team’s only goal against Dawson Creek and assisted on a couple more Sunday against Fort St. John. Alex MacIsaac scored two in that game and Tyson Price got the other. Kyle Pichette was the lone goal scorer for Slave Lake in the loss to Peace River.
Travis Chartier started two of the three games for Slave Lake in goal, with Nico Perry getting the nod in the other.
The Wolves are on the road this weekend with games in Fort St. John and Beaverlodge.
