Three Slave Lake churches are cooperating this year to continue a recent tradition of holding a joint Christmas Eve service. This year it’s the turn of The Gathering Place.
Pastor Deano Young says the joint service idea arose a few years ago and it’s worked well. This year, he hopes a bit of publicity will help extend an invitation to community members in general.
“Anyone who wishes to attend,” says Young. “Children are welcome, of course.”
The service commences at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24 at The Gathering Place. Young says it is usually about an hour long, consisting of singing Christmas carols, readings of scripture “and a short Bible message,” followed by fellowship, with snacks and beverages.

Well, we weren’t calling the town last week looking for information to be published, but here goes anyway. The question was why the first block of 3rd Ave. N.E. was left wallowing in deep snow for at least 24 hours after the rest of the street had been plowed. The answer seems to be that since it is slated for removal (as opposed to simply plowing), it doesn’t get done until later. That doesn’t really explain why it can’t be plowed earlier during the hours nobody is parked on it, but there you go.
Mr. Borchert at the town assures us that the crews are sticking to a schedule which calls for plowing main arteries first, then residential streets on a rotating basis by quadrant. Actual removal in downtown happens in off hours.
