Winterhawks lose to Athabasca

The Slave Lake Winterhawks wrote another chapter in their Jekyll and Hyde story on Saturday. Playing in Athabasca against the team they shut out 5 - 0 a couple of weeks ago, they lost 9 - 4.
“Same old story,” says coach Kim Scobie. “Short bench.”
Weak goaltending isn’t usually part of the story for the ‘Hawks but it was this time.
“Their goalie played really well and ours played really bad,” Scobie says. “We had good scoring chances.”
Athabasca had a few too, firing 53 shots against Sheldon Ghostkeeper and Travis Chartier the Wolves’ goalie who was filling in for Sanford Lamouche. The game summary does not show how many shots the ‘Hawks got on the Athabasca net.
There were other problems. Slave Lake lost Scott Sinclair early for checking from behind, and were without several players for 10 minutes at a time on other misconduct penalties.
“At one point we had three guys with 10 minute misconducts,” Scobie says. “We only had three guys on the bench. So it was a brutal game all around.”
The ‘Hawks trailed 3 - 0 after the first period, and 7 - 2 after two. Blair Sinclair and Al Beaulac scored in the second. Brent Hill and Shawn Gramlich scored in the third.
The Winterhawks are off now off until after the holidays. The Fox Creek Bandits are in for two games Jan. 10 and 11.
