Here’s an oversight worth correcting. Two issues ago we ran a photo of a large group of people who helped Marcel Baril clean up a lot of old cars and other junk at a piece of property on the north end of town. The crusher paid $100 bucks per vehicle, plus there were a few donations from people who had their old cars hauled off for no charge by Carmichael Towing as part of the project. So the final amount of money raised was just under $20,000. Oddly enough, we neglected to include this amount in the blurb that accompanied the photo. So there you have it. Sorry about the oversight.

Now for some good news: Mary Brown doesn’t have cancer! We have that from Mary herself, who tells us that she’s heard “gossip” around town to the effect that she does have cancer.
“I don’t!” she says. “I’m in good health.”

We hear the fundraiser last week for Nathan Pendrak was quite the success, at least if our source at C.J. Schurter School is correct when she tells us that $10,000 was collected.
Wow! Way to go!
Nathan is the four-year-old Slave Lake boy who was born blind and whose parents have him booked for special treatment at a clinic in China, which will cost about $30,000. Further donations can be made at the ATB in town in an account set up in his name – Nathan John Pendrak.

Pat Neil at Rexall tells us she received “the best Christmas present ever,” in the form of a crew of snow shoveling volunteers from a local church, who showed up unannounced and cleaned off her driveway, which apparently was in dire need of it.
Pat was going to drop by with more details, but hadn’t by press time, so we don’t even know which church the fellows were from!

Cross-counting skiing season is here. We dropped by the trailhead at Nine Mile Creek the other day to find a couple of vehicles parked and fresh ski tracks heading off into the bush.
No grooming yet, but no doubt it’ll be done any day. We hear the trails have been extended this year.
