Beattie, Emily

Born: October 6, 2006
Passed: December 9, 2007

Emily “Ems-Bo-Bems” Beattie, infant daughter of Doug Beattie and Darla Gauley, died December 9 after her 10-week battle with a rare autoimmune disorder. Emily is also survived by her sister Amanda and brother Matthew.
Born Oct. 6, 2006 at the Slave Lake Hospital, little Emily passed away at the age of 14 months and three days at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.
She inspired many of her doctors and nurses with her strength and determination to fight as she overcame rare and terrible infections and severe septic shock. Only after her disease spread to her brain did Emily lose the ability to fight.
A funeral was held for her Thursday, Dec. 13 at the Bethany Christian Church in Smith and she was laid to rest in the Community Cemetery.
We grieve her passing like a twisting knife in our hearts but are relieved that her painful struggle is finally over. No more does she feel agony or despair. Rather, she exults in the power of the Holy Spirit, and will live forever in the hearts and minds of all who knew her. Our little angel is now one of God’s angels who awaits our joyous reunion.
The family strongly encourages everyone to donate blood. During her fight, Emily was transfused with blood products from over 100 donors, over 40 units in the first week alone. Her family extends its deepest and most sincere thanks to everyone who supported them spiritually, emotionally, and financially.
