VANDERWELL (PALL), Margarete Christine

Born: 1918
Passed: June 26, 2009




Mrs. Margarete Vanderwell of Slave Lake, Alberta, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2009 at the age of 90. Margarete was born on Nov. 2, 1918 in Youngstown, Ohio to Michael and Marie Pall (Bachner). She married Barney Vanderwell of Keephills, AB in 1936. Margarete is survived by her brother, Mike Pall of Westlock, and her sister Sophie; two children - Robert (Karen) Vanderwell of Slave Lake, and Dianne (John) Vanderwell-Schmidts of Edmonton. She leaves to celebrate her life, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces and many friends.
Margarete was predeceased by her mother Marie in Tomahawk, AB in 1931, her father Michael Pall in 1983, her beloved husband Barney in 1984, and her brother John Pall in 1969.
She enjoyed working/cooking in lumber camps with her husband, fishing with family and friends, and she especially enjoyed gardening and entering her items in local fairs and expositions where she won many ribbons and awards. Margarete was an Auxiliary member of the RC Legion, and also was involved and supported numerous non-profit organizations. She was a key character in seeing that the “Vanderwell Heritage Place” seniors lodge was built in Slave Lake, and she recently received the Northern Alberta “Ambassador Award” from the Canadian Paraplegic Association.
The family would like to express their gratitude and thank-you to Dr. Terry O’Keefe and Dr. John Keaveny, and the staff at the Slave Lake General Hospital for their care of Margarete.
The Service for Margarete will be held at The Gathering Place, 800-6 Ave NW, in Slave Lake, AB at 2:00 pm on July 7, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Paralegic Association (Alberta), 305, 11010-101 Street, Edmonton, AB,
