Born: May 23, 1963 ![]() It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony van Boxtel of Smith, Alberta on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Anthony passed away peacefully at the University Hospital in Edmonton with family at his side after a courageous battle with leukemia. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his father Antonius (Tony) and mother Cornelia (Corrie) van Boxtel of Smith, his brother Francis van Boxtel of Smith, his sisters Corina Langdon (Boyde) of Spruce Grove, Lucia Dixon of Smith, Angelina van Boxtel (Ron) of Smith, his nieces and nephews: Kassidy Langdon, Nikolas Langdon, Kyla Langdon, Dustin van Boxtel, Tara van Boxtel, Dayna Dixon, Taylor Dixon, and Mikal Dixon, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, and brother-in-law Tony Dixon. Anthony attended Fairview College and the University of Alberta where he studied agriculture. He developed a special interest in soil science, crop science and botany. . Anthony worked for the local agricultural service board for several years. He enjoyed working outdoors and the opportunity to meet with people and talk “farming”. Anthony also worked for Ace Vegetation Ltd. in Nisku for many years. He was a licensed chemical applicator and worked throughout Alberta, and parts of Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Anthony had many great stories to tell about his travels, and the people he met and worked with. In recent years, Anthony returned home to help his parents operate the family farm. He enjoyed his life on the farm. He was an early riser who liked to go for early morning walks. Anthony was an avid gardener who looked forward to each new gardening season. He was also an ardent hockey fan, and he loved to go fishing. Anthony will be remembered by those who knew him for his kindness, his willingness to help others, his wonderful sense of humour, his love for his family, and for the special relationships he had with his each of his nieces and nephews. A memorial service and celebration of Anthony's life was held at the Smith Ag-Rec Community Centre on May 5 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a private family interment at the Smith Community cemetery. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff of the University Hospital in Edmonton for all the care and kindness extended to Anthony and the family.
