Slave Lake’s U18 Heat baseball team got off to a blazing start on the first weekend of May. Playing in Stony Plain, the Slave Lake squad won two and tied the other game in a three-game season-opening set.

In the first game, the Heat walloped Whitecourt 18 – 1, in five innings.

Koltin Davis went the distance on the mound, striking out an even dozen Whitecourt batters. At the plate, Grady Beauchamp had a strong game, going three-for-three and scoring three runs.

Game 2, against the Parkland Twins was much tougher. It ended 6 – 6 and was left there, due to darkness descending.

Davone Halcrow and Colby Campbell shared pitching duties for the Heat. Blake Bellerose and Carson Maitland both had solid batting performances, says Head Coach Kevin Campbell.

“This was a good game for the guys,” he says. “Good pitching from both teams.”

In Game 3, the Heat defeated the Edmonton White Sox 13-3 in five innings. Nico Diaz got the start on the mound and went four innings and did a good job, Campbell says.

“Great first weekend for the guys. We host at Charity Park on May 24/25.”
