The Roland Michener senior girls’ basketball team came out victorious last week in a game against the Atikameg Warriors.
According to Esther Bylsma, coach, the lady Rams came together and won 69-29.
“They played well and kept their heads up.” she says. “It will be a great team to coach again next year. Savannah Somerville had 14 points and Judy Dyck had 18 points to help the Rams to victory!”
In other local basketball news, the St. Francis Falcons hosted the 2017 junior high divisional tournament during the last weekend in February.
“From the girl’s side, the St. Francis of Assisi Falcons finished with their strongest game of the year (it’s the first year having a team) with a very close loss,” says Evan Mellsen. “The winning team was Prairie River as they beat St. Andrews 36-30 in a closely contested final.”
According to Mellsen, the boy’s team faced a bit of trouble throughout.
“The boy’s team struggled throughout the tournament as they were missing several players and had to fight through a tremendous amount of adversity throughout the weekend,” he says. “They held their heads high though, despite not making it to the medal rounds.”
Mellsen adds, “St. Andrews took first place beating Gift Lake by one point (77-76) in the finals.”
