This just in from Roland Michener wrestling coach Ian Doetzel: the Rams recently competed down in Cochrane and brought home a few medals.
“On March third the Roland Michener Rams competed in the Alberta open wrestling tournament where 600 wrestlers were competing in numerous age and weight categories,” he says. “Roland Michener went with 28; two from the senior high and the rest were from junior high. We had one of the biggest teams there; as well it has been noted that Roland Michener has one of the biggest teams in the province!”
Doetzel adds, “For the juniors it was their second tournament of the season and they proved their abilities by competing extremely well. Corbin Frank wrestled well and learned from his mistakes and resulted in a bronze medal finish. Karlee Roy did well and picked it up near the end of the tournament to place bronze as well. Reuben Burton wrestled hard with grit to place bronze.”
Other notable winners, according to Doetzel, incude Kathy Ortiz who placed second, Ethan Drake ended up with a bronze, Liam Oneil also snagged a silver medal finish and Corbin McCann with a bronze.
“Newcomer Courtney Reason came up with the sole gold medal of the tournament,” says Doetzel. “Next tournament is March 11 – 12 and is the provincial championships in Calgary.
