On March 8, 2018 at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Slave Lake RCMP were alerted to suspicious individuals at a store in the Cornerstone Plaza in Slave Lake. Upon RCMP arrival, two suspect vehicles were identified but tried to drive away from the scene. When officers pulled the vehicles over, two individuals fled on foot. One male was quickly taken into custody while the second was chased through the Slave Lake Inn and Conference Centre. The second individual eventually gave up and was arrested without incident.
In total four individuals were arrested, three of whom now have Criminal Code charges pending. It is alleged that these individuals were involved in a number of thefts from businesses in Slave Lake during the day. Additionally, one individual is facing charges under the Controlled Drugs and substances Act after being found in possession of what is suspected to be cocaine and methamphetamine.
“Astute business employees recognized suspicious behaviours and immediately notified the RCMP,” says S/Sgt John Spaans.
The accused are all male, aged 43, 31 and 23 and are all residents of Slave Lake.
